CAST is proud to partner with nonprofit Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic (RFB&D) on the development of its Learning Through Listening website.
Learning Through Listening provides K-12 educators with free listening-focused content and skill-building exercises that are developed and reviewed by educators. Content is updated frequently and is searchable by grade-range and subject. Learning Through Listening includes:
- Lesson Plans
- Classroom Activities
- Teaching Strategies
- Listening Resources
The LTL website also includes helpful information about Audiobooks in the Classroom. Audiobooks can be powerful tools to help meet the needs of struggling readers. In this section, you'll find:
- Resources and strategies for parents and teachers to foster effective and successful use of audiobooks
- A downloadable summary of research on audiobook effectiveness
- Articles linking RFB&D's audiobooks to No Child Left Behind
- Information about how audio supports Universal Design for Learning
Founded in 1946, RFB&D is a nonprofit organization that provides textbooks and novels in a digital audio format to individuals that cannot otherwise access print materials because of a learning disability, visual impairment, or other disability. RFB&D provides the largest library of unabridged audio textbooks and literature in the United States and the only audio textbooks read by humans, not computers, for a better learning experience. Members have the choice of new AudioAccess downloadable books, AudioPlus books on CD, and/or NIMAC/NIMAS files (full text and full audio synchonization).
