Position Title: Senior Development Officer

Job Description: CAST is seeking a seasoned Senior Development Officer to become an integral part of a small entrepreneurial development team that works collaboratively to raise over $5.5 million annually from philanthropic and federal sources and to expand long term resource development programs.

Federal Grants:

  • Monitor federal grant opportunities within the U.S. Department of Education, National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health and other federal agencies and maintain a prioritized grant calendar.
  • Manage the process of vetting and selecting federal grant opportunities that match key research and development objectives.
  • Work with CAST Principal Investigators, project teams and partner organizations to develop federal grant proposals for these agencies including the planning, writing, budgeting, and technical submission requirements.
  • Negotiate partnerships and subcontracts related to federal grants.
  • Steward federal relations, developing relationships with key project officers and within governmental agencies.
  • Manage federal reporting requirements in conjunction with Principal Investigators.

Private Philanthropy:

  • Responsible for a portfolio of major national prospects including foundation, corporate, and individual major gift prospects including strategy development, cultivating, soliciting and closing gifts of $50,000+, and stewarding donors.
  • Work closely with CAST Program Directors and teams to determine program priorities and fundraising plans.
  • Develop grants, proposals, and other solicitation materials.
  • Work with staff and Board in cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities.
  • Participate in reporting activities for key funders working closely with development writer and project teams.
  • Collaborate with Communications Department to create stewardship and communications materials.

Contribute to overall fundraising efforts including participating in Board development, program planning, proposal writing, cultivation activities, donor recognition, fundraising events, and development communications.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree required, Masters degree a plus with six to eight years of development experience with progressive increase in responsibilities.
  • Ideal candidate is a creative, flexible, self-motivated professional who can function well independently and as part of a collaborative team, and who has the ability to adapt to a range of development activities.
  • Proven track record in closing gifts and grants of $50,000 and up and stewarding donors.
  • Detail and goal oriented with excellent project management skills.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong strategic, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Strong interest in education and technology.
